Kentucky Street Porch

The new striking front porch transformed an Arlington cottage. The renovation of this ranch style home focused on the entrance area.  Adding a new generously sized classic front porch, front door with sidelights, address numbers, bluestone clad landscape steps, and new lighting revamped the exterior of this home.   The A-framed front porch features a cedar gable and exposed rafters to add much needed detail and charm.

Before

The original front porch was a minimal flat roof overhang that owner's described as reminiscent of a bus stop shelter.  The house is located atop a hill and the concrete landscape steps dominated the entry sequence.

The old large concrete pad dominated the front entry while the small roof overhang was barely noticiable and not very functional.

After

The new front porch added some needed height to this ranch style home and gave it a dose of elegant charm.  Cladding the landscapes steps in bluestone and replacing the rickety railings provide a more stately and refined approach from the street.

Details

The details of this porch add the charm. The porch is 9 feet by 9 feet with 9 foot tall columns that provide height to the front facade.  The arched cedar gable and exposed rafters painted white are crisp and sharp next to the pale grey brick of the home.  The new cottage style front door, painted a deep purple, with full height diamond beveled glass sidelights complement and update the 1942 vintage home.
